History

This is a handcrafted
wooden model of a wood strip canoe. This two seat
canoe was very common along the rivers and lakes of the Adirondacks,
Boundary Waters area and the Pacific Northwest. All of my canoes are one of a kind as they are constructed just like the originals utilizing
individual western red cedar strips nailed around nine molds to create
the shape of the finished boat. The beauty and diversity of western red
cedar is what makes my canoes unique and unmatched for beauty.

Inside the Canoe The trim on this canoe was made from a beautiful Peruvian Walnut which accent the red cedar nicely. Both the bow and stern decks are
also built from matching Walnut for added detail and
elegance. The seats were built like the originals with woven cane
webbing installed on Walnut frames. A center
portaging yoke made with matching wood is included to finish off the
inside detail.

Construction ProcessEach canoes utilize over 40 individual cedar
strips which must be set and cured before adding the next strip. The
canoe is constructed in a secure mold throughout the process to ensure
the integrity of the design. Once complete the canoe
is sanded and multiple clear coats are applied resulting in a beautiful
durable finish. Matching handmade paddles are included. This canoe comes with both table base stands and wall hangers for your convenience…………….. The pictures are of the actual canoe. No waiting to be built…..Each canoe is unique and will ship immediately.

This one of a
kind hand built classic canoe will accent any cabin, lodge or vacation
home and provide a unique conversation piece for years to come. These canoes are a hobby to me and not a job so I do not mass produce them and each canoe is unique. 1976 /77 Herter’s Aluminum Canoe. American classic canoe does not leak a drop and is in very nice condition. 2HP Honda has had oil flushed and changed with synthetic required oil. Impeller has been replaced last summer, Carb cleaned and tuned. Runs great and is a real complement to this strait Herter’s Flat Back Canoe. A real collectors item that is durable and usable. This is a very used aluminum canoe retired rental fleet.This canoe has seen more miles on the Russian River in Nor Cal than anyone even knows. If she could only talk.She has been repaired many times with aluminum welding and marine grade silicone. She floats great and doesn’t appear to have any leaks.
